I just took my IB Spanish test covering Units 3 and 4, and it was a mix of fun and challenge. In Unit 3, "Así es mi día", we focused on everyday routines, so I had to talk about things like my morning rituals, my school day, and how I spend my evenings—all in Spanish! It felt good to realize I could describe a typical day without too much hesitation. Unit 4, "¡Qué aproveche!", was all about food, which was interesting but also tested my memory, with so many new words for ordering food and describing tastes. This test really pushed me to think in Spanish, and it’s exciting to feel like I’m making real progress!
This is my second year learning Spanish, and the IB program has definitely made me realize how much potential I have and how well I should be utilizing my time. IB Spanish ab initio really dives deep into Spanish even though it is for beginners. The course is currently pushing me to expand my vocabulary, practice complex sentence structures, and improve my confidence in speaking and writing. It’s much more intensive than my first year, which focused more on the basics. The consistent practice and emphasis on real-world scenarios, like describing daily routines and ordering food, make me feel like I'm building skills I’ll actually use. IB is challenging, but it’s exactly what I need to really improve my Spanish and become comfortable using it in everyday life.
